Getting Involved In Government

Now that you've turned eighteen, it's time to get out and vote. However, before you start voting, you need to choose a political party. You might not realize this, but party affiliation is important, especially where the vote is concerned. In fact, if you don't choose a party, you might not be able to vote in some primary elections, which is where the candidates are chosen for the tickets. The two main political parties in the United States are Republican and Democratic. Each party has specific philosophies they adhere to. If you align yourself with the Republican party, here are just four of the reasons you might vote for Republican candidates. 

Ensure Political Responsibility

If you want to ensure political responsibility, now's the time to vote for Republican candidates. When you vote for Republican candidates, you know that they'll align themselves with the philosophies and legislative goals that are important to you. If they don't, they'll be held accountable to their constituents, who are the people who voted them into office. 

Create the Change You Want

If you're tired of the path that the United States is on right now, and you want things to change for the better, vote for Republican candidates. One of the best ways to create the change you want to see is to vote for candidates that are working towards the same goals that you find important. After all, you can't ensure the right changes if you're voting for opposing pathways and goals. 

Make Sure Your Vote Counts

If you're like many young people, you might not think that your vote counts, especially if you've been listening to the rhetoric. However, every vote does count, especially in close elections. Unfortunately, if you don't vote, and your party's candidate loses the election, you'll be left wishing that you'd taken the time to vote. 

Set an Example to Others

If your friends have decided to forego the next election, it's up to you to lead by example. You might not know this, but your vote can encourage others to get out and vote as well. Not only that, but your first vote helps to create a foundation of civic involvement for you to build on. This is especially important where party involvement is concerned. Your party involvement can help encourage your friends to join the ranks, which can increase voter turn-out.
